Lomo Saltado (Peruvian Beef Stir-fry)


  • 1 lb sirloin steak, cut into thin strips
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Rice or potatoes (optional)


  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the steak and cook for 3-4 minutes or until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the onion and garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes or until softened.
  4. Add the bell peppers, tomato, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Then cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Return the steak to the skillet and stir everything together. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Serve over rice or potatoes if desired, and garnish with cilantro.
